The historic Detroit Fire Department Headquarters has been transformed into the Foundation Hotel, which opened early 2017. This hotel is massive, with 100 rooms and offers beautiful renaissance feel since it has kept the fire department aesthetic. The opening of the Foundation Hotel has drawn many to Detroit in the past year, as a national cultural, business, and artistic touch-point. I'm glad that Detroit is building itself back up, as there is a stigma still surrounding it after the State went bankrupt. This has become one of my favourite places to travel to.
The Foundation Hotel's 100 guest rooms vary from queen double and king rooms, to junior suites and the Commissioner Suite. Each room features a headboard wall constructed by the Architectural Salvage Warehouse Detroit made of repurposed wood. In addition, each room has custom wallpaper with printed photographs of historic Detroit architecture. The rooms have a deep chocolate and pastel metallic with pink and blue accents that make me think of automobile paint colours during the 1960-era. I've only ever stayed in a king room, but one of these days i'll go back for a junior suite!
The amenities are incredible. Each room has its own private bar stocked with Detroit goods, Le Labo guest room toiletries, Wi-Fi access, pet amenities, a 24-hour business centre kiosk and 24-hour access to a fitness center! It's simply amazing. Never mind a home away from home, this home is a hundred times better!
I simply cannot express how beautiful it is to experience a stay at the Foundation Hotel. I would recommend it a hundred times over. The hotel works closely with Detroit's local brewers, farmers, distillers and other manufactures - truly creating the best Detroit has to offer all in one place.
