An icon of freedom in the US and abroad

Located on Liberty Island in the middle of New York Harbor, in Manhattan, New York City. The statue has been welcoming visitors to the city by water since its dedication on October 28, 1886.

Designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi the statue was a gift to the United States from the people of France. Representing Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, the female statue bears a torch and a tablet.
