This could be the car that would make me forget about having responsibilities while I drove it - the car that turns driving into an escape. The Superformance MKIII is the only Cobra replica built under license from Carroll Shelby Licensing Inc. The latest evolution of the fiberglass kit is the Special Edition MKIII-R developed in collaboration with Roush - one of America’s premier builders of performance engines. The result of this collaboration is the Roush/Superformance Special Edition MKIII-R - A roadster as equally menacing as it is sophisticated. The MKIII-R merges the ageless beauty of the Shelby Cobra with a heaping helping of modern performance hardware. The car starts its journey as the picture-perfect MKIII-R reproduction of Shelby’s fabled 1965 Cobra. The reproductions are meticulously hand-crafted at the Superformance factory in South Africa. From South Africa the roadster is shipped to America, where it receives a passel of Special Edition goodies, not the least of which is a 7.0-liter Roush Performance crate engine, dyno-tested at a wholly irresponsible 576 horsepower. The big V-8’s prodigious power is transferred to the asphalt by Michelin Pilot Sport tires wrapped around 18-inch American Racing wheels. Keeping all this power under control are upgraded Wilwood vented disc brakes at all four wheels and an appropriately fortified independent suspension composed of custom sway bars, Bilstein dampers, and H&R springs. The MKIII-R Special Edition package is rounded out by embroidered Roush floor mats and seats with four-point racing harnesses, original-style Smith gauges and Lucas switches, and a gleaming billet short-throw shifter for the five-speed Tremec gearbox. All I need to do is start saving for the $80,000 price tag. In the mean time back to dreaming.
